The Dutch international, who was substituted with a hamstring strain at Old Trafford on Saturday, was expected to miss the game against the European champions but has trained on Monday morning alongside fellow injury doubt Tom Huddlestone, providing boss Harry Redknapp with a welcome boost.

Van der Vaart has been pivotal in Spurs' campaign so far, contributing five goals in nine appearances since joining from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

"These are the games when the spotlight is on you as individuals to produce and it is on this stage that we must perform to show our entitlement to be there," Van der Vaart told the club's official website.

"No it won't be easy, how can it be? But we have shown our fighting spirit.

"We showed Inter what we're about in the second half at the San Siro. We proved that point with 10 men against a very good Inter side when, had we played another five or so minutes, we might have got it back to 4-4."

The 27-year-old has also highlighted his international team mate Wesley Sneijder as a potential danger man ahead of the White Hart Lane clash: "He's a player we have to contain because he's their inspiration in midfield.
