The Mumbai Cricket Association's Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) is scheduled to meet today to decide on the appointment of selectors, coaches and physios for all age groups. Some members find this odd because critical appointments for the forthcoming season ought to be made by a new committee formed after the June elections.
If the CIC sticks to its agenda, a new coach for the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team could well be announced this evening. Today's meeting will not be chaired by batting legend Sunil Gavaskar since he resigned as chief of the panel on April 1. Dilip Vengsarkar, the vice-president of the association will in all probability head the table.

Not many were ready to throw up names of coach candidates because very little thought has been given to this particular slot which has been made vacant after former Test player Praveen Amre resigned as coach
last month.
"I wanted to quit after we won the Ranji Trophy in 2009 but somehow decided to stay on. Despite we not winning the title last season, I can say my five-season tenure was fruitful. I must thank the CIC because this panel made me Mumbai coach," Amre told MiD DAY last evening.
Mumbai failed to make last season's Ranji Trophy semi-finals when they were beaten by eventual champions Rajasthan in December 2010.
"I had the pleasure of working with some great people. I enjoyed exchanging notes with Dilip Vengsarkar (MCA vice-president), who apart from being passionate, was willing to listen to points of view. While Amre stressed on the need for a coach to have a say in selection, he was not confident that this would come to fruition. Amre is assistant coach to Geoff Marsh at Pune Warriors.
