"We've got some improvements to make, fielding is such an area. We dropped Adam (Gilchrist) twice and we were lucky to win from there," Ganguly said after the match.
The Knight Riders skipper also praised Angelo Mathews and Owais Shah from pulling the team out of the pit in the match, which they won by 11 runs against the defending champions.
"Owais and Mathews batted outstandingly to take us to 161. We were ordinary for the first 10 overs in both innings but pulled back in the last 10 overs," Ganguly said.
"We thought, 150 to 160 will be good total for them, but Gilchrist batted outstandingly. We were lucky to win the match from that position," he added.
Meanwhile, Deccan Chargers captain Gilchrist regretted that despite good starts with both ball and bat they could not win the match.
u00a0"We were in the box seat, great start with the ball and bat also but we didn't finish well. We panicked a little bit," Gilchrist said. "It wasn't smart cricket. It was gettable on that wicket, all credit to the Knight Riders. They bowled well and their change of pace was very nice," the Australian added. "However, the tournament is a long-term event and we hope to improve in the coming matches," Gilchrist said.
