On his first tour to Pakistan in 1989-90, Kapil Dev challenged Sachin Tendulkar to play for 10 years. The great all-rounder stressed then that if the young gun could manage that, it would be a great achievement. "I've doubled it now and it's a great feeling. I didn't think I would have come this far," Tendulkar said yesterday.

Tendulkar completed a decade in international cricket in November 1999 when Kapil Dev was coach of the Indian team having taken over from Anshuman Gaekwad. Wonder how the large-hearted Kapil responded to the 'feat'.
Tendulkar has come a long way from that fresh-faced boy, who made his debut at the age of 16 against Pakistan in 1989. His bats have traveled some distance too. Tendulkar will now been seen playing with a new bat the brand with the three stripes. The sports goods giants announced the launch of its cricket hardware at a suburban hotel yesterday evening.
Being a batting perfectionist, Tendulkar could never comprise on his equipment. "I am always particular with my bat, pads and shoes. The shape, bat swing and feel are very important. I don't compromise on these particulars. I am also used to a certain bat weight," said Tendulkar.
