Mumbai’s young all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar smashed a 31-ball, unbeaten 77 and picked up three wickets for 41 runs as MIG Cricket Club handed Islam Gymkhana a 194-run defeat in a second round Group A match of the DY Patil Group-sponsored 73rd Police Invitation Shield cricket tournament at Islam Gymkhana on Sunday

Mumbai’s young all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar smashed a 31-ball, unbeaten 77  and picked up three wickets for 41 runs as MIG Cricket Club handed Islam Gymkhana a 194-run defeat in a second round Group A match of the DY Patil Group-sponsored 73rd Police Invitation Shield cricket tournament at Islam Gymkhana on Sunday.



Tendulkar hit five fours and eight sixes including five sixes in an over off Hashir Dafedar, the off-spinner. Besides Tendulkar’s superb effort, teammates - opener Kevin D’Almeida (96) and No. 4 batsman Pragnesh Kandillewar’s 112 - also played a significant role in MIG’s massive victory.


Electing to bat,  MIG scored a mammoth 385 runs for seven in 45 overs. Islam Gymkhana found the target too stiff and were bundled out for 191 on 41.5 overs. Mihir Agarwal top-scored with a composed 77 and Praful Waghela chipped in with 57. Ankush Jaiswal (3/31) and Shreyas Gurav (3/34) along with Arjun shared the wickets.

Meanwhile, hosts Mumbai Police CC rode on fine performances of left-arm spinner Pushkaraj Chavan (3-33) and opening batsman Sunil Patil to record a convincing eight-wicket victory against Cricket Club of India (CCI) in a Group B encounter.

Deciding to field, Mumbai Police dismissed CCI for 127 in 34 overs. Pushkaraj Chavan (3-33), Amit Pande (2-24) and Yash Chavan (2-15) were responsible in taking the wickets. Later, Mumbai Police easily chased the target, scoring 128 runs for 2 wickets in just 27.1 overs. Opener Sunil Patil made 70 to ensure the win.

Group A: MIG CC 385 for 7 in 45 overs (Kevin D’Almeida 96, Pragnesh Kandillewar 112, Arjun Tendulkar 77*; Viraj Gamre 3-62) beat Islam Gymkhana 191 all out in 41.5 overs (Mihir Agarwal 77, Praful Waghela 57, Ankush Jaiswal 3-31, Shreyas Gurav 3-34, Arjun Tendulkar 3-41). 

Result: MIG CC won by 194 runs.
DY Patil SA 268 for 8 in 45 overs (Bravish Shetty 51, Shubham Ranjane 52, Anand Bous 40, Pravin Tambe 49) lost to Parsee Gymkhana 272 for 7 wickets in 44.3 overs (Vikrant Auti 71, Aakarshit Gomel 63, Vaibhav Kalamkar 40). Result: Parsee Gymkhana won by 3 wickets.

Group B 
Cricket Club of India 127 all out in 34 overs (Nishad Gabhawalla 43; Pushkaraj Chavan 3-33) lost to Mumbai Police CC 128 for 2 wickets, 27.1 overs (Sunil Patil 70). Result: Mumbai Police CC won by 8 wickets.

Bombay Gymkhana 242 all out in 43.4 overs (Sandeep Kunchikor 48, Bhupen Lalwani 58, Saurabh Singh 45; Vishwajit Thakur 5-49) lost to Parkophene Cricketers 243 for 4 wickets in 39.5 overs (Jaspeet Randhawa 91, Prasad Pawar 52). Result: Parkophene Cricketers won by 6 wickets.

Group C: National CC 266 for 9 in 45 overs (Sachin Gill 95, Neil Narvekar 42, Sashikant Kadam 40; Salil Agharkar 4-42) beat PJ Hindu Gymkhana 247 all out in 42.3 overs (Karan Nandey 57, Megh Adhvaryu 51; Shashikant Kadam 3-40, Prasad Patil 3-52). 

Result: National CC won by 19 runs.

New Hind SC 233 for 9 in 40 overs (Karan Shah 40, Kushal Dawane 51; Vignesh Solanki 3/32) lost to Karnatak SA 237 for 5 in 39.4 overs (Karan Vashodia 47, Shrideep Mangela 100). 

Result: Karnatak SA won by 5 wickets.

Group-D: DY Patil Group 305 for 5 in 42 overs (Sumit Ghadigaonkar 54, Kaustabh Pawar 57, Landev Chavan 58*, Sarvesh Damble 44) beat Shivaji Park Gymkhana 267 all out in 43.4 overs (Jayesh Pokhare 91, Gandhar Bhatawadekar 43; Rakesh Prabhu 5-60). Result: D.Y. Patil Group won by 38 runs.

Payyade CC 312 for 5 wickets in 45 overs (Musheer Khan 52, Siddhesh Lad 54, Prayag Bhati 58*, Raunaq Sharma 66) beat MCA Colts 283 for 5 wickets in 45 overs (Akhil Rajput 46, Nikhil Patil (Jr) 112, Sangram Bhalekar 43*). 

Result: Payyade CC won by 29 runs.
