The confirmation was made two weeks after the Portuguese club had confirmed his sale and almost a month after Martinez himself had said he was moving to Spain, reports Xinhua.
The confirmation from Atletico came late on Wednesday with an official communique saying they had paid his 35 million euros ($39 million) buyout clause.
Atletico confirmed that Martinez, who scored 32 goals for Porto in the 2014-15 season, had signed a four-year contract with the club to become their third major signing of the summer following the arrival of forwards, Ferreira Carrasco and Luciano Vietto.
