FIFA U-17 World Cup: Former captains forgotten, later felicitated at half-time

Despite being captain of the Indian football team in the 1956 Olympic Games and the 1982 Asian Games respectively, both Samar (Badru) Banerjee and Bhaskar Ganguly were not felicitated initially by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in presence of the All India Football Federation president Praful Patel at a small ceremony of the U-17 FIFA World Cup in India.

Syed Naeemuddin, Magan Singh, IM Vijayan, Baichung Bhutia, Joaquim Abranches and Sunil Chhetri received recognition from the Prime Minister before India's debut match at the World Cup. However, the organisers realised their mistake later and both captains were felicitated during half-time by the Prime Minister, said Bhaskar.
