Striker Khatib Mohammad netted the all-important goal that helped St Mary's SSC (Mazgaon) pull off a 1-0 win over Dominic Savio (Andheri) in a thrilling boys' under-16 Division I final of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday.

St Mary's have regained the title after 11 years. Dominic Savio last won the title in 1987. In the 27th minute, Khatib intercepted a weak goal-kick just outside the rival box and quickly dispatched it past Dominic Savio's substitute goalkeeper Joshua Stephen to send his teammates and large number of supporters into a frenzy.

Dominic Savio had a couple of attempts at the rival goal, but did not succeed in finding the net. The best chance came from skipper Duane D'Souza, who was a shade unlucky to see his deft flick from Gerald Barretto's free-kick narrowly miss the target. Meanwhile, star of the day, Khatib was ecstatic after the win. "It's fabulous to score a goal in the final and help the team emerge champions," he said.

Third-place result: Jamnabai Narsee (Juhu) 3 (Anshveer Nagpal 1, Ahaan Khanna 1, Arhaan Roy Chowdhry 1) beat St Francis D'Assisi (Borivali) 0
