Campion School (Cooperage) produced an improved second-half performance and their efforts paid rich dividends as they struck two quick goals to quash the hopes of CNM School (Vile Parle) to win the boys under-10 Division-I final of the MSSA inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan on Wednesday.

The summit clash was keenly contested between two sides who played an open and attacking game. The exchanges were evenly balanced. Strikers Aylmer Fernandes, Aryan Mehta and Abir Mittat spearheaded the Campion attack, while the Vile Parle school were well-served by Riaan Shirke, Parth Ramayu and Medansh Goradia, who initiated quite a few raids into the rival territory, but failed to achieve any success. Both teams had numerous shots on goal, but were unable to hit the target and the first half finished goalless.

In the second half, Campion broke the opposition’s resistance when Aryan scored the first goal in the 25th minute. Later, substitute defender Shaurya drilled a long direct free-kick into the roof of the net to double Campion School’s lead and secure a 2-0 triumph.

Earlier, Christ Church (Byculla) outplayed St Stanislaus (Bandra) 3-0 to win the third-place match. Ilhaan Karadame gave Christ Church an early lead, scoring the first goal in the seventh minute and the Byculla boys went into the break with a 1-0 advantage. After switching sides, Christ Church scored two quick goals, through Danish Shaikh in the 16th minute and Ibrahim Ansari (18th minue) to clinch the game.
