Captain Lindsey Horan scored a second-half equaliser as holders the United States came from behind to draw 1-1 with the Netherlands at the Women’s World Cup on Thursday in a rematch of the 2019 final. Midfielder Jill Roord fired home a first-half opener to threaten a momentous result in the Group ‘E’ clash in Wellington in front of a crowd of 27,312.

Meanwhile, Telma Encarnacao scored one goal and assisted on another as Portugal defeated Vietnam 2-0 on Thursday in the Women’s World Cup, a win that ensured Vietnam will not advance to the knockout stage. In the 21st minute, Encarnacao slipped the ball to Kika Nazareth as she raced through defenders, and slotted the second goal of the night to the left of goalkeeper Tran Thi Kim Thanh. In another match, second-half goals from Osinachi Ohale and Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria a stunning 3-2 win over Australia .
