Don Bosco ‘B’ (Matunga) were fortunate to scrape past a profligate Sacred Heart Boys School (Santacruz) by snatching a 2-0 win in a boys’ U-16 Div-III pre-quarterfinal match of the MSSA inter-school football tournament at the St Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivli, on Friday.

The Sacred Heart schoolboys showed better understanding and co-ordination and had almost half a dozen scoring opportunities, but they surprisingly failed to convert. Sacred Heart’s best effort was when in the first half, Vikalp Tambe’s low shot was saved by Bosco goalkeeper Shervan Parab, who dived to his left to block the ball. And in the second half, Sacred Hearts’s prolific goal scorer Vignesh Sharma left lob beat goalkeeper Shervan, but narrowly sailed over the horizontal bar.
On the other hand, Bosco lads who played second fiddle, managed to capitalise of the chances that came their way to score the two goals and emerge victors to set up a quarter-final meeting with St Lawrence HS (Borivali). Don Bosco captain Abhishek Ahiwale scored the first goal in the 10th minute. Sacred Heart goalkeeper Chaitanya Desai failed to collect Vihaan Bodou’s innocuous shot and Abhishek pounced on the ball to tap it home. Later, in the second half, Don Bosco soaked in a lot of pressure, but managed to score an insurance goal at the death. Abhishek with a measured through pass sent Liam Almeida in the clear.
