Don Bosco (Matunga) coach Leslie Machado’s decision to play 13-year-old Marc D’Souza in the U-16 category seems to have worked well for him. For yesterday, Marc scored the only goal in Don Bosco’s 1-0 win over St Augustine High School (Nerul) to lift the J C Maitra & J C Bhattacharjee Memorial boys’ U-16 Cup, organised by the Bengal Club Sports Academy at Azad Maidan yesterday.

“It doesn’t matter if I play in U-14 or U-16 category. All I want is to give my best. What matters to me is that I perform to the best of my abilities. Leslie Sir has immense confidence in me and I feel that I should live up to his expectations,” said Marc.
Meanwhile, Machado is positive about his move to a higher age group. “It is because of his talent that I fielded his name in the U-16 team. Though he is an U-14 player, he has immense potential. Today, he made me proud by playing fearlessly. It’s time that we start preparing him for higher age group matches,” Machado told MiD DAY.
