All-rounder Farhan helps Anjuman beat Oxford

Farhan Shaikh's all round show helped Anjuman Islam (CST) beat Oxford Public School (Kandivli) by an innings and 58 runs in a U-14 Giles Shield Elite Div inter-school cricket match at Cross Maidan, Churchgate yesterday.

Left-arm spinner Shaikh bagged a match haul of seven wickets and scored 148.


Resuming Day Three at 13 for no loss in their second innings, Oxford were bowled out for just 53 as Anjuman's spin pair of Mushir Khan (5-9) and Farhan breezed through the opposition batting line-up to hand Anjuman a massive win.

In the first innings, Oxford were bowled out for 189, with Farhan bagging five wickets for 32. In the second stint he contributed with two wickets.

Farhan said he enjoyed his batting as much as his bowling.

"My coach advised me to stay on the wicket and keep strike. I enjoyed my batting more than bowling," said the 13-year-old.

In other Giles Shield matches, Rizvi Springfield crushed Swami Vivekanand by an innings and 431 runs, while Parle Tilak lost to Al-Barkaat by an innings and 147 runs.

Brief scores
Oxford Public School 189 & 53 (S Singh 16; M Khan 5-9) lost to Anjuman Islam 300 (F Shaikh 148; S More 3-35) by an innings and 58 runs.
