"Tablas?" proposed V Anand in Spanish to Veselin Topalov, when even the tiniest possibility of a decisive result had been wiped out after 60 moves in Game 10 of the World Chess Championship in Sofia. Topalov and Anand are based in Spain and speak Spanish fluently and hence the draw offer in Spanish.

Toplalov, however did not respond (stubbornly sticking to the Sofia rule) but called the arbiter and after making a move, shook hands with Anand. The 12 game Match is very excitingly poised with the scores level at 5-5. Anand had played the Grunfeld and after a careless move in the middle had spent better part of the game defending and struggling to salvage a draw. Today is a rest day.
