Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti praised his side's resilience after seeing them come from behind for the third time this season to climb to the top of the Premier League table.
Michael Ballack, Frank Lampard and Deco all struck after the break to kill off Sunderland, who had gone ahead in the 18th minute through a Darren Bent strike, and secure a second three point-haul after their late heroics against Hull at the weekend.
Coach delighted
They had to do the same before winning the Community Shield against Manchester United on penalties, and Ancelotti was delighted to see them battle back from adversity once again.
He said: "It can happen in football and it's important to have a good reaction, not to be afraid.
"You have to maintain control of the game and we have done that in those three matches. Even when we were behind, we were in control."
