ONE of the most exciting moments in track and field is witnessing a record being set. Yesterday proved to be a similar day in the MSSA Nike annual inter-school athletic championship as five new meet records were set.
The pick of the day was 11-year-old Anil Kumar Sahoo of St Lawrence High School who set three of the five records. Throwing a clear 12.61 metres in shot put, leaping 5.46 in long jump, and clearing 1.46 in high jump.
Anil himself was unaware that he had bettered his very own previous best of 1.45 in high jump that he set last year.
Anil is now a contender for the MSSA athlete of the year award.
His coach Benedict D'Cruz said: "I think he will compete in the decathlon in future. Besides javelin and pole vault he is extremely well versed with the other categories."
