The tournament will feature 12 teams — eight outstation and four local — divided into four pools of three teams each with the pool toppers contesting the semis.

Besides the top two city teams from the Super League, two more local teams will be picked following a four-team qualifier that will precede the tournament.

Interestingly, MHAL will introduce the four-quarter format (as is the new international norm) for the Gold Cup.

"We wanted to play the four-quarter system for the Super League, but hadn't informed the teams early, so decided against it. Gold Cup matches will be of 60-minutes (four quarters of 15 mins each)," MHAL secretary Ram Singh Rathore told mid-day.
