As per the tournament's rules, all players participating in the Harris Shield must possess a MCA identity card which is to be shown to the umpires before the match. However, yesterday only four CP Goenka players — Aryan Irani, Akarsh Hirenwal, Ibrahim Shawl and Shresht Khetan — had MCA identity cards.
CP Goenka's coach Vaibhav Khudda said he didn't know that the players needed to be registered under the MCA. "It's been just three months since I have taken over as coach of this team. I did not know that it was necessary to register the players under MCA," an embarrassed Khudda told mid-day yesterday even as his players walked off disappointed.
