Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Conor McGregor could pip Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the latest Forbes rich list for sportspersons after the Irishman pocketed over £77m (Rs 636 crore) in his knockout defeat to American boxer Floyd Mayweather.
British daily, The Daily Post reported that when the two met last year, McGregor said, "You [Ronaldo] were number one on the Forbes list, I was like number 35 or something. I'll get up. Maybe next year I'll get you." To which, Ronaldo had replied: "I don't think so".
Ronaldo, 32, tops the current list with an earning of £71m (R585 crore) in 2016, And though the footballer's 2017 earnings is not yet known, the Portuguese star could go down to McGregor given the Irishman's career-high payday.
However, even if McGregor manages to pip Ronaldo, there's no way he'll top the list as Mayweather pocketed a super cool £233m (Rs 1926 crore) from the same fight.
