The 14-time Grand Slam champion, who slumped to 10th in the rankings in June, failed to win any of the sport's four grand slams for the first time since 2004 but finished the year on a much improved note, making couple of finals before reaching the semis at the season-ending ATP World Tour in London.

Nadal said that he was confident that he would be very competitive, adding that he hopes to start the new season on a positive note, Sport24 reported.
The Spaniard said he was not expecting an amazing comeback but added that he was hoping for an improvement in his level of tennis and competition.
Nadal will play at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition event in Abu Dhabi on Friday before heading to Doha for his official season-opener.
