Double joy for Kothari in CCI Squash

Tushar Kothari of Rajasthan was the toast of the day after storming into the boys' under-19 and under-17 quarter-finals in the 66th Cricket Club of India-Western India Open Squash Tournament at the CCI yesterday.

Tushar Kothari of Rajasthan was the toast of the day after storming into the boys' under-19 and under-17 quarter-finals in the 66th Cricket Club of India-Western India Open Squash Tournament at the CCI yesterday.


Kothari kicked off a rewarding day when he overcame fancied Cyrus Sidhwa of CCI 11-9, 11-6, 12-10 in an exciting boys' under-19 tie that got off to an explosive start with a tight opening game and stretched into extra points in the third game.




There was a minor upset when Madhav Dhingra of Otters Club surprised favourite Ness Billimoria of CCI 5-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-5 in another absorbing boys under-17 match.

Men's Open top seed Gaurav Nandrajog of Delhi remained on course as he overcame junior Pranay Merchant of CCI 11-5, 11-4, 11-2 to advance to the quarter-finals.

Joining Nandrajog were third seed Ravi Dixit of Tamil Nadu and No 4 Vikas Jangra of the Services Sports Control Board. The other significant winners were girls' under-19 second seed Ankita Sharma of Otters Club and under-15 top seed Urvashi Joshi of the Jindal Squash Academy, Vashind who also entered the quarter-finals.
