The extension to Raikkonen’s contract, which was due to expire at the end of the year, stretches his current stint with Formula One’s most successful team into a fourth season.
The Finn previously drove for Ferrari for three seasons from 2007 to 2009, clinching the title in his maiden year with the outfit. He remains Ferrari’s last world champion.
Hamilton on top
Meanwhile, reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton ended the opening day of practice for his home British Grand Prix at the top of the timesheets.
The Mercedes driver who had also topped the opening morning session lapped the 5.8-kilometre long Silverstone circuit in one minute 31.660 seconds.
Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was second, less than four-tenths slower, ahead of team-mate Max Verstappen in third.
