Hamilton, who is bidding to become the first British driver to win four championships, courted criticism after he posted a series of videos in which he was drinking tequila from a bottle and smoking a shisha pipe in a Miami nightclub. The incident took place in the aftermath of the Russian GP — the scene of his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg’s fourth win in as many races — and naturally led to questions about the Briton’s focus.

“He is preparing for his second life after Formula One and it can be a problem for his career. It can maybe take some concentration away, and on some days it can make him lose points. He needs to think about his lifestyle. He needs to concentrate, and he needs to put in the first place what is more important for him."
