The fan was sitting in the lower boxes on the first-base side near the Tampa Bay dugout when she was hit by a foul off the bat of Rays batter Steven Souza.
The game in St Petersburg, Florida was delayed for about 10 minutes while the fan received medical attention. There were no immediate reports on the fan’s condition.
Efforts were made during the offseason to install protective netting around the baseball field, but Souza’s ball appeared to slide through a gap in the net.
