Left-arm spinner Vighnesh Solanki's 5-33 helped IES New English (Bandra) gain the upper hand on Day One of the three-day match of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) Harris Shield Plate Division (Group B) boys U-16 inter-school final against Swami Vivekanand International School (Borivli) at Bengal Club, Shivaji Park yesterday.

Vighnesh was the wrecker-in-chief as Swami Vivekanand were all out for 181 in 73.4 overs. The 14-year-old took the wickets of Aryansh Pandit (5), Hemraj Joshi (0), Sohail Shaikh (1), Sahil Karekar (1) and Sahil Gore (0). Of the 27 overs Vighnesh bowled, 12 were maidens.
IES, in reply, were 9-1 at stumps with Shivkumar Pandit and Abhishek Surve both batting on three.

Meanwhile, in the Group D final match, Yashodham High School’s (Goregaon) spin duo Sachin Singh and Ryan Thomas took three wickets each to bundle out Rajhans Vidyalaya (Andheri) for 56 runs at Shivaji Park. In reply, the Goregaon school were 160-7 at the end of the day’s play.
In the Group C final at Azad Maidan, SVDD Secondary English Medium School’s (Ghatkopar) Jay Makhecha claimed 7-36 to bowl out Amulakh Amichand School (Matunga) for 147. However, SVDD batsmen were all out for 55, thanks to Amulakh’s Priyen Patel (4-5). At stumps, SVDD were 79-1.
In Group A, Fatima High School (Vidyavihar) scored 387-6 with Rishit Shah top scoring with 81 runs against St Xavier’s Boys Academy (Churchgate).
