The Mahindra Group and National Basketball Association joined hands yesterday to launch a multi-city league that is aimed at entertaining as well as showcasing the skill aspect in basketball.

"This a recreational league which will be held on weekends where people can have fun and be entertained, but we still want to ensure that we bring high quality, structured competition," said Heidi Ueberroth, the president of NBA's international operations.
"These types of recreational leagues are wide spread in many countries and we are convinced we can have it here in Mumbai," she added.
The Mahindra NBA Challenge will be held for seven weeks (starting April 17) annually in two divisions for ages 14 to 17 and 18 plus in Bangalore, Ludhiana and Mumbai in collaboration with the Basketball Federation of India (BFI). "In our cricket-loving nation, it is important to encourage other sports as well and we believe basketball isu00a0 suited to bring communities together and promote healthy lifestyles," said Anand Mahindra, Managing Director, Mahindra Group.
