In The Spotlight, the facile winner of the Indian Derby at Mahalaxmi racetrack on Sunday, may give a skip to the grade 1, Indian Turf Invitation Cup to be held on March 4 at the Bangalore race track.
Trainer S Padmanabhan confirmed the possibility when speaking to MiD DAY after the filly posted a sensational seven-length victory over rivals in the greatest race of her career.
"Yes, we may skip the Invitation Cup at Bangalore," said Padmanbhan. "After her Kolkata Derby victory last month, Captain Appoo, her owner, entered her in one of the Dubai races during the world cup show.
"If she gets invited there, we might choose to skip the Invitation Cup." When MiD DAY contacted Captain Appoo, he also confirmed the development.
"I have entered her in the Dubai Gold Cup, a group 3 race to be run over 3,200 meters (2 miles), scheduled on the Dubai World Cup day (March 31)," he said, "I will now have to hurry and email, telling them about her Derby victory, so that her rating can be revised, because I suppose the invitations will be going out from their side next week."
The owner, however, added that if that does not happen, In The Spotlight will race in the Invitation Cup and then will leave shores to race abroadu00a0 at an appropriate venue.
