The 43-year old Irishman, whose last big victory was astride Royal Diamond three years ago in the Irish St Leger, was a regular visitor to Mumbai's Mahalaxmi racetrack for nearly two decades between 1993-2011, and had three Classic wins to his credit: Her Excellency (1000 Guineas, 1999), Aldeburgh (2000 Guineas, 2002) & Blue Ribbons (Oaks, 2007).
Though chances are McCullagh may be discharged from the hospital after a couple of weeks, his complete recovery may take a very long time. He is ruled out from returning to the saddle for at least three months.
