Jordan Halarnkar's tryst with inter-school football ended on a high. The Class X student struck in the second minute to help his school, Holy Family, Andheri clinch the Under-16 Division III title in the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-conducted inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday. A slender 1-0 victory over St Xavier's, Borivili was enough for the Andheri side to lay their hands on the coveted title and subsequently, get promoted to Division II.

"Surely, getting promoted to Division II was really crucial for us, but winning the trophy was as important. After all, this was the last time we were representing our school and I am glad that we could give something in return to our school," Jordan said.

Jordan also felt that their school deserved a place in the top division of inter-school football. "We are a much better side to be in Division III. We deserve a place in Division I," said the buoyant striker.

Fourteen-year-old Jordan also criticised his former goalkeeper who he claimed was the reason for their demotion from Division II to Division III. "We had a good side and some really good defenders but our 'keeper was not good enough. He kept making mistakes," he said.

Speaking about the final, he said his side had studied their opponents ufffd St Xavier's in their previous games and had devised plans for them for the all-important clash. Right from the start to the final whistle, Holy Family called the shots, with their midfielders feeding the forwards with some articulate passes. Their defenders on the other hand, seemed at ease and kept everything at bay.
