Anil Kumble says he's got his timing right when it comes to an entry in cricket administration
Former India cricket captain Anil Kumble and fast bowler Javagal Srinath filed their nominations for the post of president and secretary respectively in the ensuing Karnataka State Cricket Association elections slated for November 21.
Rahul Dravid and former India players Venkatesh Prasad, Vijay Bharadwaj and Sujith Somasundar will be part of the Kumble's electoral team. Having already achieved their primary goal of ridding the controversial Brijesh Patel, who has wisely decided not to contest the elections, Kumble's team will take on incumbent president Srikanthadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar contingent, which had significantly diluted Patel's 12-year reign over the KSCA.
Kumble's vision is to help Karnataka cricket regain its glory. "Karnataka has been responsible for showcasing world-class talent to international cricket. It has played a pivotal role in development of Indian cricket and I am confident it will continue to do so.
"We want to ensure that Karnataka cricket grows. Not just the association becoming the No1 in the world but the cricket team also goes on to be No1 in India and many more Karnataka cricketers represent India," said Kumble.
Kumble deemed it was important that cricketers get involved in administration for the development of the game.
"I think it is important for cricketers to be part of the association. When I retired two years ago, I was keen to involve myself in cricket administration. I thought this was the best time for me, Srinath, Rahul, Prasad, Vijay, Sujith all the other cricketers of our generation to get involved."
Kumble said Karnataka cricket was at a critical juncture. "But I can confidently say we will be able deliver. We will give our 100 per cent for the development of cricket."
"The commitment, passion and the need for Karnataka cricket to grow has made us take this decision.
Obviously, there is lot of scope for improvement and with young minds and energies and the support of people we can do well. There is lot to be done at the grass root level," said Kumble.
