Despite a majority welcoming Kalmadi's loss in the AAA's presidential race, there were some athletes who believed the former Indian Olympic Association president was being punished even though the courts are yet to pronounce him guilty in various cases.
“It was a bad news for India as Kalmadi was a very experienced sports administrator. He was the president of Asian Athletics Association for many years and IOA chief.
He did a lot of things for Indian sports in general and for athletics in particular. So I think it will be difficult to find a person to replace him,” long jumper Anju Bobby George told PTI. Her thoughts were seconded by, Virender Poonia, the husband of discus thrower Krishna Poonia.
