For the third year running, Indian Navy clinched the MDFA Independence Cup football tournament by beating Western Railways 7-6 in tie-breaker, after a 1-1 draw failed to separate both sides in regulation time yesterday.

The Railwaymen managed to clinch the opening goal of the game through a magnificent volley from Ravikant Naidu in the dying minutes of the first half.
However, after breather, the rejuvenated sailors equallised through Anoop Pauly. Both teams failed to score in regulation time to take the match into tie-breaker. In the shootout, Navy successfully converted through Sunil Naik, Wayne Vaz, V Lalchhuanmawia, Bibake Thapa, Akash Kamble and Shahir S to emerge champions.
Western could only score through Ravikant, Linekar Machedo, Merwin F, Avinash D, Charanjeet Singh, while Somi PT shot wide and Prabal Chakrobarty's try was saved by Navy goalkeeper Bhaskar Roy.
