MSSA hockey secretary Sarah Alphonso explained that as per MSSA rules at least eight teams are needed for a tournament to be conducted.
"As per MSSA rules, there has to be participation from at least eight schools but we have received only six entries from five schools (one school has fielded two teams) this time.
I would have still loved to go ahead and conduct the tournament, but since there is a rule, it cannot be breached.
Besides, the other age-group tournaments have already been delayed this year, so there's no chance of the competition taking place later too," she said.
One angry parent, on condition of anonymity said: "We have purchased new equipment for our kids and they have been practising for the tournament. They will all be very disappointed now."
St Stanislaus however have decided to have an U-10 tournament of their own. "As part of our school's 150 years celebrations, we are planning to have a boys' U-10 hockey tournament, so that these little chaps are not discouraged or disappointed," said St Stanislaus coach George Esteves.
