St. Anne’s High School (Malad West) crushed nine-girl Balmohan Vidya Mandir (Dadar) 8-0 in a Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) U-16 girls’ Div II inter-school football match at Azad Maidan on Saturday.

Balmohan had their backs to the wall even before the ball was kicked, as they could only manage to field nine players, as some of them were not present because of the Ganesh festival.

The game was like a nightmare for the Dadar outfit who just could not contain St Anne’s. Rhea D’Costa had a field day as she scored four past the hapless Dadar custodian. Anna Fernandes scored a brace while Prathana Pawar and captain Sravya Shetty scored one each.

Alex D Lopez, coach of St Anne’s, insisted that this victory does not reflect their true potential given they played a nine-girl side. “It’s good we could score eight goals but we cannot assess our potential against a team who played with just nine players.”
