Vienna: Andy Murray and David Ferrer were among the players advancing to the quarter-finals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on Thursday.
Top seed Murray, who is gunning for a third title this month and could move up a place to World No. 1 before the end of the year, came from behind against France's Gilles Simon, the Briton registering a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory to set up a meeting with American John Isner.
Spain's defending champion Ferrer, the fifth seed, defeated Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) and will now face Viktor Troicki after the Serbian sent third-seeded Austrian Dominic Thiem crashing out, 6-2, 7-5.
The other seed in action, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (six), safely made it through as the Frenchman beat Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.
