The ladies singles at the World Championships also saw both finalists from China. Lu Lan beat former World and All England champion Xie Xinfang 23-21, 21-12. Like the men's singles final, this too did not produce many fireworks. Playing at almost a leisurely pace, the younger Lu Lan covered the court better and led through out the two games barring 16-17 in the first when Xinfang came back from 7-12 and 12-16 down to catch up.

The Chinese coaches don't believe in being vocal on the sidelines. "Our coaches never go to the court to offer tips. We leave the players to play and think for themselves. My team worked hard for this event and we will go back satisfied with the outcome. Lu Lan played well and is the future of China Badminton," said chief Chinese coach Li Yong Bo.
