Force India's Scottish driver misses podium by a whisker, but gains team 12 valuable points

Paul di Resta finishes fourth

A podium finish only just eluded Force India’s Paul di Resta in yesterday’s Bahrain Grand Prix with the Scot finishing fourth to match his best ever F1 result.

Di Resta, who had started fifth, made good use of a two stop strategy but could do nothing to stop Romain Grosjean’s Lotus, which was significantly faster, from overtaking him with only six laps to go.

“I think I’ve got to be very happy with it. You always want to get on the podium but it will come soon enough,” di Resta told journalists. “It’s twelve points taken with both hands. But I think looking at every session this weekend, I think we’ve performed to the 100 per cent maximum we could have done.”

Force India’s form all weekend backs up the speed the team showed two races back in Malaysia and highlights the car’s strength in hot conditions.

Di Resta’s fourth-place finish yesterday moves the Silverstone-based squad ahead of McLaren — who have had a tough start to their year — in the constructors’ championship but di Resta expressed caution ahead of the next race in Spain as the former world champions are known for bouncing back from a slump.

“We know McLaren are going to bounce back. But we’ll keep pushing as much as we can. We’ll be praying that the sun’s out and shining quite hard (in Barcelona).”
