Horses are no different than men. If racegoers were itching for action thanks to the long summer hiatus, so were the horses and professionals managing them, or what would explain a crowd of 112 horses enrolling to run on the first day
Hold your breath, another 107 are in queue tomorrow for yet another ten-race card, which means almost 25% of the horses stationed here cannot wait to get the feel of the luscious green grass of the racetrack.

It is another matter that most of them will use their first outing to clear their lungs and exercise their muscles rather than bidding for a pie of the stake money. But their sheer presence is likely to make the races competitive, because the fancied horses will need to be deftly manouvered by their riders through this crowd to beat their legitimate opponents.
Caution should therefore be the watchword for the opening day, and I choose to recommend only two bets on the bumper card: Incentio who looks too good for his unplaced rivals, and Koh Samui who runs with a good chance because she will have to take care of only Nigella.
First race at 1 pm.
