There are many things that a professional player needs to give up to keep fit. For former World No. 1 doubles tennis ace Sania Mirza, it was staying away from processed sugar (chemically produced sugar which are added to foods and beverages).

"I had become gluten-free (staying away from bread, no wheat, no flour and lots of proteins) in the last few years. I have stopped processed sugar last year. I believe in moderation so I don't deprive myself completely of anything and make sure I have my cheat days," Mirza told mid-day in an interview recently.

The 30-year-old Hyderabadi, who is known for her fashion sense off court, added that she likes to look good.

"I just try to be comfortable in what I wear. Like most girls in the world, I like fashion too. I try to look good. I like to experiment and try different things. Fortunately, I have a good team around me.

"I don't understand fashion and leave everything up to my stylists. My sister Anam Mirza and Ami Patel do the job. I have the easy job of just following them," said Mirza.

Asked what the new fashion trend in tennis is, she said, "It's a lot of prints I think. People are wearing a lot of colourful prints these days on tennis dresses."
