The Tendulkars may have not got an opportunity to participate in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon.
However, the seventh edition of the meet will be different for the family of India's greatest batsman.
Tendulkar's daughter Sara will be the first from the family to participate in the city's most extravagant sporting event. The 13-year-old will run in the Dream Run segment of the event for her grandmother's NGO Apnalaya.
"Sara's been keen to participate in the Mumbai Marathon for a couple of years. But the minimum age to participate in any of the categories is 12. We are glad to see her raising fund for Apnalaya," Annabel Mehta told MiD DAY yesterday.
Earlier, India's cricket icon Tendulkar had made an appearance in the Mumbai Marathon but could not hit the road due to security reasons. Meanwhile, the Marathon flame, a closely guarded and protected property of Greece, where the marathon was born, will make its way to Mumbai this Sunday. The Marathon Flame will be taken in a convoy from Sahar International Airport to Hutatma Chowk, where another specially erected 15-foot torch will stay lit till the end of the Mumbai Marathon on January 17.
