India made an incredible start to their campaign in shooting with two gold and two silver medals, now it is the turn of the guru-shishya pair of Ronjon Sodhi and Asher Noria who will lead India's charge at the double trap (pairs) event in the Commonwealth Games today.
While coach Sodhi recently clinched gold in the ISSF world double trap shooting championship in Lonata Italy, ward Noria was recently crowned junior world champion. Obviously, the Indian shooting contingent will expect nothing but gold from the duo.
"I have learnt all the nuances from him (Sodhi). I am looking forward to this event," Noria told MiD DAY at the picturesque Dr Karni Singh shooting range yesterday.
'Pressure'
The 17-year-old also felt India's four medals yesterday will add momentum to his and Sodhi's campaign.
"Pressure is good. It makes you aware. But the medals won will add to our confidence," he said.
Earlier in the day, Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang started the Indian campaign with consummate ease. In fact, it appeared as if it was a dress rehearsal for two performers before the final act.
"It wasn't easy at all," said Narang. "It's never a cake walk, especially when you are shooting at home. It was hard for me and I'm sure it was the same for Gagan. The expectations are high and therefore the pressure to deliver is also there," Bindra added almost cutting Narang short.u00a0 Bindra aptly summed it up when he said: "Today's haul is fantastic but we are taking each day as it comes.
"We are not thinking about the London Olympics. We are not even thinking of the Asian Games. All we have on our mind is the Commonwealth Games."
