Six players pull out of WSH, but organisers stand firm

Organisers of the multi-million dollar World Series Hockeyu00a0 were confident that the (Dec 17 to Jan 12 ) tournament would go on as per schedule and with all the players they have signed up despite six Indian playersu00a0 yesterday pulling out of the franchise-based tournament.

Sandeep Singh

Star drag flicker Sandeep Singh, midfielder Sardara Singh, goalkeepers Bharat Chetri and PR Sreejesh, and forwards Tushar Khandker and Yuvraj Walmiki in a written statement to Hockey India secretary general Narinder Batra yesterday, stated "We are not playing in the World Series Hockey event and will be attending the national camp in Delhi for the Olympic qualifiers on December 11, 2011 until February 2012. We will be available for selection in the national team for the Olympic qualifiers.

Sardara Singh have signed Hockey India's letter

We signed the contract with World Series Hockey under the impression that WSH will not force us to play and ask us to leave for the national camp." WSH's organisers however claimed that none of the players have informed them about their decision, and further questioned why they have written to a third party (HI) instead.
Nimbus Sport COO Yannick Colaco said in a statement: "We find it extremely odd that players would have chosen to "write" to a third party to withdraw from WSH. Not a single WSH player has communicated to us regarding their non availability for the inaugural edition of World Series Hockey."
