Somdev went down 4-6, 1-6 against third-seeded and World No 27 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain.
Meanwhile, Mardy Fish made a victorious debut as America's top-ranked men's tennis player, defeating Albert Ramos in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals.
Fish, the top seed in this $442,500 ATP event, defeated Ramos 6-3, 6-4, turning back a late charge that saw the Spaniard pull back from 5-1 down in the second set to 5-4.
"Naturally, you think, 6-3, 5-1 and you figure the finish line is pretty close. You've got to keep your foot on the gas a little more," said Fish, who had a first-round bye. "But he played better at the end."
