The Malad outfit played with eight players as six players failed to turn up due to Ganeshotsav. The match was also shortened by 15 minutes in the second half as St Joseph's coach Thomas D'Souza requested his St Dominic Savio counterpart Lakshman Rao to finish the game early. Since the Andheri side had already qualified for the pre-quarters and were 2-0 up at the time, Rao agreed.

Glenn Lewis scored in the eight minute from a powerful strike to give Domnic Savio the lead. Mario Fernandes doubled their lead in the 20th minute striking the ball to the left side of the goal to end the first half 2-0. After the break, the next half was played for 10 minutes. Glenn extended the lead for his side after punching in the rebound when goalkeeper Neal D'Silva had saved his first effort in the 29th minute.

Rao said, "Thomas had told me that six of his players have not turned up for the game and since we were already leading in the first half, I agreed and we spoke to the official to end the match before time."
