MigueL D'Costa scored the solitary goal for St Stanislaus as the Bandra school beat Lilavatibai Podar (Santacruz) 1-0 in the boys U-14 Div I Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school quarter-final at Azad Maidan yesterday.
Later, the striker promptly gave credit for the success to the school’s new coaching set-up. The school authorities have roped in the Kenkre Football Club’s coaches to train their U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14 teams from this season.

It may be noted that three of Stanislaus’ coaches — Jubal Solomon, Hyacinth Cardoz and Trevor Fernandes — were handed two-year bans last year by MSSA for alleged misconduct. Though the bans were later revoked, the coaches preferred to stay away.u00a0
“It’s only a month since the new Kenkre coaches began training us, but their approach is unique. They don’t shout and are very polite,” said Miguel.
Kenkre FC director Joshua Lewis said it’s a challenging assignment. “St Stanislaus has been a dominant force in schools’ football, but in the last couple of years, they have not been able to maintain their high standard.
So, the school management approached us to train their teams, and we agreed. We will be training all teams except the U-16 team for this season,” Lewis told MiD DAY yesterday.u00a0
