The 21-year-old won four gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics, and hopes to succeed at the upcoming Rio Games (August 5-21) too. She is currently participating in the national swimming trials, where she finished a disappointing seventh in the 100m backstroke event.

Franklin devotes most of her mornings to rigorous six-day-a-week training, so values the few days off and celebrates it with a hearty breakfast.

"I'm a huge breakfast person. So if I have a day off, I make a massive, amazing breakfast," Franklin told People magazine in an interview recently.

She stressed on the significance of the first meal of the day being the most important meal of the day and insisted on it being full of nutrition and other benefits to keep her body going.

Nutrition crucial
"Nutrition is a big part of my training. If I'm not fueling my body with the right things then I'm not going to perform the way I need to," added the 21-year-old California native.

So what exactly does Franklin's breakfast comprise?

Franklin said that omlette-making is something she particularly focuses on and loves to pair her "omelettes with fruit and some whole wheat toast to go with it."

The idea, says Franklin, "is to have fun with the process." Omlette-flipping is another crucial aspect of Franklin's breakfast-making. And she seems to have taken the task to a new level.

"I'm very proud of myself because I've mastered the omelette flip in the pan. I almost always make omelettes just so that I can flip them — that's the most exciting part for me," she added.
