Tanay first scored an unbeaten 115 as Utpal Sanghvi piled on 337 runs in 40 overs. Their opponents however, were unable to finish their quota of 45 overs within the stipulated time-frame of three hours, and Utpal Sanghvi were awarded a 75-run bonus, taking their total to 412.
Tanay then returned to trouble the Bandra outfit with his off-spinners — claiming three wickets off the only over he bowled. Tanay’s teammate and leg-spinner Tirth Patel also took three wickets off two overs, giving away just one run, as IES were bowled out for a paltry 33 in 11 overs.
An elated Tanay said that he was only keen on staying at the wicket and never expected to score a century.u00a0“I went in to bat when we were 60-2. My captain Nimai (Shah) told me not to think too much about the score and ensure I don’t lose my wicket. So I simply kept rotating the strike and scored boundaries only to loose deliveries.
“This is my first year in the Giles Shield and I hope I can continue to score big runs and help my team earn a promotion to the Elite Division,” said the 13-year-old.
