The eighth-seeded Serb beat American Alison Riske 6-3, 6-0 in their first round encounter. Ivanovic has won as many as 48 matches this year — that's more than any other player on the tour.
The 2008 French Open champion has struggled to get back to her top level but eventually seems to be getting there with each passing game.
Ivanovic returned to the top 10 this month for the first time in more than five years this time and now wants to make that success count at Flishing Meadows. Ivanovic was broken in the first game yesterday but quickly bounced back and took control of the proceedings.
The 24-year-old Riske went quite fare in last year's edition of the tournament here, reaching the fourth round after an upset victory over the seasoned Petra Kvitova. Riske attained a career-high ranking of World No 40 this season.
