He broke one of the longest standing track and field records after 23 years. And his new record is still unconquered for almost 26 years now. Mike Powell jumped high enough - 8.95 metres in 1991 - to break Bob Beamon's 1968 Olympic and world record of 8.90m in long jump.

Powell expressed how he longed to see Usain Bolt participate in the event. "Bolt has been exceptional. His consistency speaks for him. I think if he had trained for long jump properly, he could have broken the barrier of nine metres in the event," said Powell during a promotional marathon event in Kolkata yesterday.
