Pillay has constantly been voicing his support for the Sahara Group to take over controversy-laden Indian hockey in their own private capacity. He even urged the Indian government to hand over the reins to the Lucknow-based company who, he feels, will do a great job in promoting the national game given their sheer love for sport.

tendered a bid to pay off Liverpool's 237 million pounds (approximately Rs 1707.1 crore) debt in return for a stake in the club.
